Four new water treatment plants in Vietnam

First project in sector for InfraCo Asia will deliver clean water to 500,000
InfraCo Asia is to support the development of four municipal water treatment plants in Vietnam, the first time it has backed a project in the sector.
The plants, spread across four towns, will provide up to 62,000 cubic metres of water, benefiting approximately 500,000 residents in Vietnam.
There is a critical need for clean industrial grade water and safer drinking water in the country. However, ground water wells are running low, with some being contaminated by seawater.
Allard Nooy, InfraCo Asia CEO, said: “The project will ultimately support social and economic development in the four municipal towns by providing portable water solutions for the communities.
“The support provided by InfraCo Asia in developing these projects to world-class standards will set the stage for achieving financial close through private sector investment.”
InfraCo Asia will provide funding to support private sector partner Darco Water Technologies, counteracting high project risk at the earliest stages of project development. The company will design, build, own and operate the four plants.
The project has also been facilitated by International Enterprise Singapore, a government agency that has provided technical assistance funding.
The first project in the southern Ben Tre province will begin construction at the end of 2017. The other projects will start in 2018.
