A “Vietnam Days” event is currently running in The Hague, the Netherlands, as an initiative to follow up a series of activities to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries held last year, the Dutch Embassy in Hanoi said Tuesday in a press release.

The three-day event began on September 22 and introduces Vietnamese culture to a broad Dutch audience in order to reinforce bilateral ties.

“Vietnam Days” in the Netherlands consists of an art performance, “The Perfume and Beauty of Vietnam,” and an exhibition, “Vietnamese Space,” the Vietnamese government said Monday on its website.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has led a large delegation to the European country for the program.

The official visit began with a meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on the extensive bilateral relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands.

Infrastructure and Environment Minister Melanie Schultz and Deputy Prime Minister Hai later discussed solutions for water-related issues relevant to both nations.

As delta countries, Vietnam and the Netherlands face similar challenges and opportunities presented by water and climate change.

On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Hai will open a business forum where Dutch and Vietnamese companies can meet each other.

Trade between the two countries is steadily rising, and more than 100 Dutch companies are currently active in Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister Hai’s visit comes at a moment when both countries are stepping up cooperation.

While Hai already visited the Netherlands less than two years ago, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung paid a visit to the country during the Nuclear Security Summit in March, and Prime Minster Rutte made an official visit to Hanoi in June.

At the end of the year, Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan will visit Hanoi to strengthen economic and education ties between the two cities.

Vietnam and the Netherlands established diplomatic rapport in 1973.
