Conference on Vietnam - Netherlands Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security

In the morning of April 9, in Hanoi, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong and the Netherlands vice Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality Sonnema had a meeting on bilateral strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Netherlands on sustainable agriculture and food security.

During the talk, the two sides exchanged information and viewpoints on policies, status and potentials for bilateral cooperation within the framework of the Strategic Partnership Agreement on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (SPA).

Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong and Deputy Minister Sonnema shared the same viewpoint that developing a sustainable value chain plays a backbone role in cooperation activities between Vietnam and the Netherlands, with the approach towards customer needs, the efficiency of production, not the output. The Netherlands technologies will contribute to the development of sustainable value chains by reducing post-harvest losses.

Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong and Deputy Minister Sonnema agreed that the Netherlands and Vietnam will jointly develop the roadmap for application and development of post-harvest technologies.

The two sides exchanged and agreed on the direction of cooperation in the framework of SPA in the coming years to continue cooperation in agricultural transformation in the Mekong Delta.

The Netherlands and Vietnam are the two countries with many similarities and long-term partners in many fields, especially in agricultural development and resource management. Over the years, the Netherlands has been seen as the leading partner of Vietnam in sharing experiences in development, water management and response to climate change impacts. There have been many programs and projects supported by the Government and the people of the Netherlands in such areas as biogas development, food safety improvement, adaptation and mitigation of climate change impacts, natural resource management ...

Minister Nguyen Xuan Cuong expressed his hope that the Netherlands would share experiences in agricultural development with innovative ways in production, investment and agricultural business, application of the achievements of science and technology and the Industrial Revolution 4.0 into smart agricultural production to promote the advantages of Vietnam's agriculture in each ecological region and enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products, thereby improving farmers' incomes and contributing to bilateral trade growth.
