Hanoi to have nation’s biggest wastewater treatment station

Construction on the country’s biggest wastewater treatment station with a daily capacity of 270,000 cubic metres started in Thanh Liet commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi on October 7.
The facility treating waste water discharged by Ba Dinh, Tu Liem, Dong Da, Thanh Xuan, Hoang Mai, Ha Dong and Thanh Tri districts, is expected to revive the rivers of To Lich, Lu, Set, and a section of the Nhue river, contributing to the sustainable development of the city.

According to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, pollution in the city’s rivers and lakes is an urgent problem as urban wastewater is currently collected and discharged into the rivers of Kim Nguu, Set, To Lich, and Lu and lakes in the city.

The project is expected to significantly improve the rivers’ water quality and the city’s environment, Chung said.
The municipal leader also urged relevant bodies to facilitate the project’s implementation, so it can be put into operation in 2019, two years ahead of its schedule.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Head of the Japanese Consultation Team Kunji Akinaga pledged to ensure the project will be implemented in a safe and effective manner with high quality in accordance with the set schedule.
According to Director of the municipal Department of Construction Le Van Duc, the project includes four components, including the building of the Yen Xa wastewater treatment station.
Other three components aim to build 52.61 km-long drainage systems along the Lich, Lu, and Nhue rivers.
