Japanese company lands water supply project in Vietnam

Swing, a comprehensive water supply company in which Mitsubishi Corp., Ebara and JGC have invested, has received an order to construct a water supply facility in the northern Vietnamese province of Vinh Phuc.

Swing is teaming up with South Korea's Hanshin Engineering & Construction. The Japanese company will build such machinery and electrical equipment as water treatment facilities and pumps, while the partner will handle civil engineering work and pipe installation. The order is valued at around 3.8 billion yen ($37 million).

The facility will supply a daily 30,000 cu. meters of water to industrial parks and households. Swing will keep costs down by using local materials and human resources and will also support operation and management after completion, targeted for April 2016.

Supported by a yen-denominated loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the order is the first such Vietnamese project received by a Japanese company in the water treatment field in a decade.

According to Swing, construction of at least three water treatment facilities is planned in Vietnam this year. It hopes to use the recent order as a foothold to win more work.
