Netherlands ready to share experience with HCMC

“As an economic locomotive of the whole country, HCMC always welcomes, creates an open and clear investment environment for investors and enterprises, including Dutch investors to seek investment opportunities in HCMC”.

Expressed by Chairman of HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong in a reception with Mr. Marten Ven Den Berg, Director General for Foreign Economic Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands on October 25 at HCMC’s headquarter. 

At the reception, both leaders discussed and agreed to strengthen cooperation in fields of food security, hi-tech agriculture, smart city, aviation, anti-flooding at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Highly valued Vietnam-Netherlands well-developed friendship and cooperation relation, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong emphasized that since establishing diplomatic relation in 1973, Vietnam and the Netherlands have maintained an effective multi-faceted cooperation relation, especially after establishment of Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Treatment in 2010 and the signing of strategic partnership on sustainable agriculture and food security in 2014.

Mr. Phong also highly appreciated the Netherlands’ effective support and enthusiasm, especially the support of Rotterdam’s authority and of Dutch Consulate General in HCMC in the past years in fields of climate change, water management and anti-flooding, especially the program of “HCMC moving towards the Sea with Climate Change Adaptation”. In the framework of the program, HCMC and Rotterdam has been cooperating to build a reservoir in District 4.

In a discussion with Mr. Marten Ven Den Berg about hi-tech agriculture, Mr. Phong said the city is paying a special attention the hi-tech agriculture. Hi-tech agriculture only accounts for 1% GDP of the city but contributes to ensure food security for the whole city. Regarding to food safety, Mr. Phong emphasized that the city is paying special attention to improve living quality of local citizens, especially food safety. He expressed his hope that Mr. Marten Ven Den Berg would encourage Dutch enterprises to invest in the Saigon Hi-tech Park as well as to share experience in management, processing and preservation of food with high quality.

In term of aviation sector, especially anti-flooding at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Mr. Phong emphasized the importance of aviation sector in promoting international cooperation and boosting growth. With an increasing population, Tan Son Nhat International Airport has been overloaded due to poor infrastructure plus with flooding. The city hoped to continuously study experience and technology of the Netherlands in fields of anti-flooding.

Regarding to smart city, Mr. Phong said HCMC has worked out the project of smart city and expected to synchronously implement many areas, including application of information technology to better serve local citizens and enterprises.  HCMC hoped the Netherlands to share its experience with the city in this field.
 
For his part, Mr. Marten Ven Den Berg highly valued the cooperation history between Vietnam and the Netherlands, saying both sides’ relation has been deeply and widely developed in many fields such as research, climate change, water management, infrastructure and logistics.

He added that HCMC is a dynamic city with outstanding achievements in the process of construction and development. The city is always an ideal destination for foreign investors with lots of cooperation potential.  He stressed that with over 30 Dutch enterprises coming to HCMC in this visit, it is a clear proof that Dutch enterprises are showing their interest in investment environment in HCMC. 

In the framework of the visit, Mr. Marten Ven Den Berg and the delegation have participated into the seminar on “Model of sustainable enterprise” and the workshop on “climate - smart agricultural solutions”.
