Diary of Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s official visit to Vietnam

In the framework of the official visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from 16 to 17 June 2014 to promote bilateral cooperation in depth and effectiveness  in different sectors, the Prime Minister has been engaged in a lot of activities with busy schedule. VCT would like to give an overview of this visit.

11:00:  Right after landing in Noi Bai airport, Prime Minister Mark Rutte visited Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. He said it was his first time to visit Ngoc Son Temple and he was really impressed with this place.

12:30: The Prime Minister took photos with the Dutch delegation of officials and business leaders accompanying the Dutch Prime Minister during the visit. At the same time attending the Kick-off Business Lunch at Melia Hotel in Hanoi.

At the welcome party, after the greetings from the Dutch Ambassador Mr. Joop Scheffers, the heads of CEO delegation, Business delegation and AETIN delegation gave speech. Mr Hanh Do briefly introduced AETIN delegation and the mission of AETIN.

14:00:  After the official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a bilateral meeting and signed ‘Strategic Partnership Agreement on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security’, and witnessed the signing of ‘Memorandum of Development Cooperation for Son My LNG Terminal project in Vietnam’ and ‘Frame Contract on Trading LNG for Thi Vai Terminal project’ between PV Gas and Shell Group of the Netherlands. At the same time, the two Prime Ministers approved the General Statement on the results of the official visit to Vietnam by Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte gave a courtesy call with the President of Vietnam Mr Truong Tan Sang and had a short meeting with the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Sinh Hung in the same day.

18:30:  Official dinner hosted by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to welcome Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

08:45:  Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung chaired a High Level Meeting on the implementation of integrated Mekong Delta Development held at Melia Hanoi Hotel with the presence of representatives from World Bank and international organizations.

12:30:  Networking Lunch was held at Melia Hanoi with the presence of the Dutch government and business delegations accompanying the Prime Minister to Vietnam. Under the witness of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai, six MoU & LoI had been signed, including the LoI of extending AETIN’s activities till 31 December 2015.

15:00:  The delegation went to Hai Phong city to visit Damen’s Song Cam Shipyard and witnessed the ship launching, as well as witnessed the ground breaking ceremony of a logistics & warehousing  project there.

19:00:  Prime Minister Mark Rutte left Vietnam for the Netherlands, successfully ended the visit to Vietnam.

Besides the activities of the Prime Minister, there were activities of AETIN energy delegation headed by Mr. Hanh Do – Chairman of AETIN and the agricultural delegation headed by Ms. Sharon Dijksma - Minister of Agriculture of the Netherlands.

The energy delegation had working sessions in Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ngai and Hanoi with energy counterparts and relevant authorities of Vietnam as the PV Engineering, PTSC, PV Drilling, Dung Quat Refinery (BSR), Ministry of Industry and Trade, General Department of Energy, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), etc. and conduct successfully Energy Forum in Hanoi.

The agriculture delegation held successfully Seminar on Horticultural Cooperation and Development, Forum on Agro Finance. At the same time, the agriculture delegation had working sessions in Hanoi and HCMC with relevant authorities as Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Economic Committee of the Communist Party, People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City,  Agriculture High-tech Park (AHTP), etc. A number of cooperation agreements have also been signed between the organizations and businesses of the two countries.

The visit of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands together with the government & business delegations have obtained many good results including General Statement and agreements signed between the governments and the businesses of the two countries. The success of the trip will contribute to the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the Netherlands toward the extensive and practical development, to meet the needs of each country and to bring benefits to the two peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and worldwide./.
